Creating wild, but delicate, hand-built ceramics I use glazed and un-glazed porcelain to construct beaten, distorted forms with soft curves and interrupted contours. I'm fascinated with the idea of making one thing look like something else; it's always a thrill when someone has to question what they're seeing with their eyes but feeling with their hands!
The newest body of work is the addition of mugs and plates to the collection. A functional line, inspired by the use of lace/wallpaper textures and my familiar paper-like quality. The work is, however, deliberately chunkier for a more durable product. A carefully chosen colour palette of Antique Rose, Sea Green, Light Turquoise/Blue, Mustard and Slate Grey/Green envelopes the pieces, whilst a gold or silver lustre adorns the edges, exuding a little bit of luxury for the every day….
I make my work from my studio at Fireworks Clay Studios in the heart of Cardiff.
