#marchmeetthemaker day 15. Motivation/ goals:
My current goal is to have more stockists 🛒 I currently have a selection of products in @littlesmithsnorfolk, in both Fakenham and Norwich stores. The Norwich store is new and is located on St Augustine’s street. Pop in if you’re local- I’m yet to see it in the flesh! There are also a few pieces in Through the Looking Glass Interiors which is based in Dereham 💛
#marchmeetthemaker day 14. How I learnt?
I learnt at uni! I graduated in 2017 with a first in Textile Design 🎓 (notice I’m the only one with a drink in their hand in this photograph 🥴) As I mentioned before, I only started experimenting properly with screen printing in my final year. This is what shaped my final collection and inspired my prints 2 years on! ✏️
#marchmeetthemaker day13. Photography:
I have recently got a collapsible photo studio with a big built-in light, which I am loving! I’ve been using that to shoot new product photos for my Etsy shop 📸 I use a tripod along with my iPhone camera which makes it super easy to edit and upload them 🤩
#marchmeetthemaker day 12 Hands at work:
Here’s me at uni screen printing 👋 I miss having such big screens and such a large space for printing 😪 I’m currently working in my old playroom with a humongous table that almost fills the whole room. There’s not much space but I make it work 🤪
#marchmeetthemaker day 11. Reducing Waste:
I’ve always been conscious of waste but it is still definitely something I need to improve on 🌍 “Zero Waste” was always something I focused on when completing uni projects, especially in drawing. My screen printing process means that I use a lotttt of paper. I cut out paper shapes to create stencils to put on my screens (I don’t currently have an exposure unit to burn designs onto the screens). I let these paper cut outs dry and then use them in drawings for future projects, meaning less ink waste as well as paper! I have various boxes of these leftover cut out papers, I often lay pieces out to help me with potential design compositions. Sometimes, I then scale up the paper collage with a few tweaks and then use it as a guide to screen print more fabric ♻️ In terms of packing orders, I have began using small cardboard flat boxes with recyclable packaging (tissue paper or shredded/recycled paper) instead of plastic mailers. 📦 All new cards and prints are also being packaged in eco friendly biodegradable sleeves once the old plastic cello sleeves have all run out (there’s not many left now!) 🌟
#marchmeetthemaker day 10 YOU: my name is Amelia, I’m 23 years old and live in a small town in Northamptonshire 🌿 this photograph was from last summer when I was attempting to look somewhat edgy in front of @boosaville’s art at @newportstreetgallery_london 😎
